Windwalker
Quote NBC says, You may not know it by looking at sticker prices in grocery aisles, but Thanksgiving dinner is more affordable than it has been in years. The costs of this year’s holiday feast — estimated at $58.08 for a 10-person gathering, or $5.81 a head — dropped 5% since last year, the lowest level since 2021, according to a nationwide survey of grocery prices by the American Farm Bureau Federation, which represents millions of U.S. farmers. But the picture improves further when adjusted for inflation. “If your dollar had the same overall purchasing power as a consumer in 1984 … this would be the least expensive Thanksgiving meal in the 39-year history of the AFBF Thanksgiving survey, other than the outlier of 2020,” the authors wrote. And indeed, while Thanksgiving food prices are up 19% since 2019, according to the AFBF, federal data shows median household wages growing by about 25% during the same period. I'm so glad, my wages, or SS increased by 25%. I must have missed that memo. We're going to have chicken and dressing today, maybe some canned green peas, and dinner rolls, Tea. Likewise, I really doubt that will cost me less than $5.81 per person, even in my area. Chicken Leg Quarters (4), 4.25-6 lb Tray Walmart $6.67 Stove Top Cornbread Stuffing Mix, 6 oz Box $1.98 Great Value Sweet Hawaiian Rolls, 12 Count $2.38 Green Peas canned (1) Walmart store brand $1.68 Great Value Jellied Cranberry Sauce, 14 Oz $2.12 Russet Baking Potatoes Whole Fresh for mashed potatoes (2), $1.76 Heinz Home Style Brown Gravy, 12 oz Jar. $2.22 Tea Milos $3.48 Total $22.29 Tax 10% $2.22 ------------------- Total $24.51 for us two. Our Love: Priceless. NBC says it's supposed to be $5.81 per person this year. Feed a family of 10 for $58.08 And our prices are way cheaper than just north of us. Looks like light Thanksgiving for us runs around $12.25 each, in the real world. How about you, can you feed Thanksgiving for $5.81 per person? Let us know. Quote Ultimately, how much people pay for Thanksgiving dinner will also depend on geography. Households in the West, the priciest region for the holiday’s groceries, will spend about 18% more on average than those living in the South, where they’re cheapest, the AFBF estimates.
